Blessed Angela Penhaligon, offbeat indie pop musician Piney Gir followed the pseudonym from a youth nickname. While she started piano lessons at age four, the Kansas indigenous grew up within a rigorous Pentecostal household using a dad who banned tv and secular music, though her mom would sometimes enable indulgences in pop lifestyle.
