Norman Orr

The youngest from the classic Fillmore Auditorium concert poster artists, Norman Orr absorbed the influences of predecessors like Rick Griffin, Stanley Mouse, and Alton Kelley to ultimately hone his own uniquely complete and freewheeling style harking back again to the graphic designs from the 19th century. Delivered just beyond SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA on Oct 27, 1949, he was still in senior high school when psychedelia got root; harboring creative ambitions since years as a child, he discovered the Fillmore’s promotional posters as inspirational as the music itself, and vowed to someday generate his own parts for the place. After graduation, Orr visited focus on a plantation, generating up to the Bay Region each weekend to soak up the picture; in his free hours, he also continuing sketching. After completing his initial poster honoring Santana’s appearance at the neighborhood county reasonable, in 1970 Orr marketed his first industrial piece, a pen-and-ink sketching that was section of a thematic series known as Custer Passed away for Our Sins. Later on working like a custom made carpenter in SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, his focus considered intricate handmade solid wood carvings and paper sculpture; finally, in 1995 Orr produced a welcome go back to the globe of rock and roll poster artwork, creating some original black-and-white items commissioned honoring tribute concerts celebrating the life span and function of John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Ron “Pigpen” McKernan from the Grateful Dead.
