Michael Jameson

Blessed in Southampton (UK) in 1959, Michael Jameson’s music career started with cello lessons at age group 6. Five years later on, he offered his first general public performances, later on playing Elgar’s cello concerto whilst still at college. After research at London’s Guildhall College of Music, he freelanced with a number of the UK’s finest orchestras, and in addition spent six years as cellist from the Wessex String Quartet. Also an important critic, he became the youngest ever contributor to Gramophone journal, and has consequently written for just about any English-language record review journal, across three continents. He’s the writer of many books (including a biography of Vaughan Williams, a report of Mozart’s piano concertos, and a study of lesser-known Viennese Classicists), and a favorite lecturer and broadcaster. Mike’s method of authoring music is actually basic – ‘It’s comparable to live efficiency…you’ve got make your audience on aspect’, he says. ‘And easily have the ability to convey something of my very own enthusiasm for a specific composer or function to the audience, and motivate them become familiar with the music for themselves, it’s certainly been worthwhile.
