When John Balicanta made a decision to attend NYU, he not merely had to go from his local California to NEW YORK but he also needed to keep his high-school music group in back of. Vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Balicanta got shaped Lola Corin (translated from Filipino, this means “Grandma Corin”) with high-school close friends Brian Spina (acoustic guitar) and Wayne McIvor (bass). These were a noisy music group, playing in the design of the Smashing Pumpkins, Fugazi, and Failing, until university broke them up. While at NYU, Balicanta was learning audio executive and required an internship. He got one at Dumbo Studios, possessed by Peter Robinson who was simply the V.P. of A&R at RCA Information. Balicanta was right now documenting demos and carrying out beneath the name Lola Ray, and asked Robinson to 1 of his open-mic gigs. Robinson was ready to obtain behind Balicanta and store his demonstration around if he could think of a genuine music group. Through Dumbo Studios, Balicanta fulfilled drummer Alex Smolinski but locating the right guitarist and bassist in NEW YORK proved difficult. Aged buddies Spina and McIvor shifted to new NY and joined the brand new music group when they received Balicanta’s contact. Robinson gave Great Charlotte’s Benji Madden a tape from the music group, and Lola Ray discovered an ideal label because of their debut. Using a audio that combined their previous hard, alternative rock and roll style with a robust pop polish, Lola Ray released their debut, I HAVE NO IDEA You, on Great Charlotte’s brand-new label D.C. Flag in Apr of 2004.
