Jerome Cooper

A gleaming drummer and percussionist, Jerome Cooper has used many fine organizations, notably the superb Groundbreaking Ensemble. A fantastic accompanist, Cooper’s solos are mentioned for their type and speed; he starts gradually, then steadily evolves brief phrases into effective, complex lines and explosive rhythms. He analyzed drumming with Oliver Coleman and Walter Dyett in the past due ’50s and early ’60s. Cooper went to the American Conservatory and Loop University during the past due ’60s. He used Oscar Dark brown, Jr. and Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre in 1968, after that moved to European countries. Cooper worked well there with Steve Lacy, toured Africa with Lou Bennett, and used The Art Outfit of Chicago, Alan Silva, Frank Wright and Noah Howard in the first ’70s. He became a member of The Revolutionary Outfit with Leroy Jenkins and Sirone upon his go back to America in 1971. The trio battled until 1977, producing far-reaching, critically acclaimed, but low-selling, albums and touring thoroughly. It was a classic co-operative opportunity, with each member composing compositions and playing multiple tools. Cooper performed piano, bugle and flute besides drums and percussion. He also caused Sam Streams, George Adams, Karl Berger, Andrew Hill, Anthony Braxton and McIntyre during this time period. Through the ’80s, Cooper used Cecil Taylor as soon as even more with McIntyre. He documented as a innovator within the ’70s for approximately Time, performing a single album.
