The tradition of Scottish bagpiping is still expanded with the playing of Kitchener, Ontario-born James McGillivray. The receiver of precious metal medals from Oban and Inverness, Scotland, McGillivray provides won five UNITED STATES championships along with his expressive playing. Piper & Drummer newspaper called McGillivray one of the better all-round pipers, ever. Understanding how to play the bagpipes in 1966, McGillivray competed skillfully within six years. He gained his second UNITED STATES championship using the Guelph Tube Music group in 1981 and three championships through the four years (1988-1992) that he used the 78th Fraser Highlanders. McGillivray provides continued to talk about his musical understanding with anyone ready to find out. In 1988, he released an instructional reserve/Compact disc, Rhythmic Fingerwork.
