Anyone thinking about performing a genealogical research from the root base of riot grrrl rock and roll have to include this tremendously influential SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA band. Ferocious, cool feminists, Frightwig’s debut LP was a brain-burning chunk of white-hot sound rock, packed with unsubtle intimate politics (“My Crotch WILL NOT Say Move”) and fueled by punk rock and roll bravado that under no circumstances let up. Traveling when confronted with every regular (i.e., male-defined) attitude of the woman’s put in place contemporary rock and roll, Frightwig basically got in that person and stayed generally there. Sadly, they burnt out after two information, reuniting in 1990 to get a dispiriting EP that sounded similar to a sophomoric filthy joke. A whole lot of feminist-inspired females rock bands from the ’90s, like L7, Bikini Eliminate, and Bratmobile, owed a debts of gratitude to the pioneering band.
