Clifford Brown

Clifford Brown’s loss of life in a vehicle accident at age 25 was among the great tragedies in jazz background. Already position with Dizzy Gillespie and Kilometers Davis among the best trumpeters in jazz, Brownie was still enhancing in 1956. Plus he was a clean liver organ and had not been even traveling; the up-and-coming pianist Richie Powell and his wife (who was simply traveling) also perished in the crash. Clifford Dark brown accomplished a good deal in the small amount of time he previously. He began on trumpet when he was 15, and by 1948 was playing frequently in Philadelphia. Fat Navarro, who was simply his main impact, encouraged Dark brown, as do Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. After a 12 months at Maryland Condition University, he is at a serious car crash in June 1950 that place him out of actions for a 12 months. In 1952, Dark brown made his documenting debut with Chris Powell’s Blue Flames (an R&B group). The next 12 months, he spent a while with Tadd Dameron, and from August to Dec was with Lionel Hampton’s music group, touring European countries and leading some documenting periods. In early 1954, he documented some excellent solos at Birdland with Artwork Blakey’s quintet (a music group that straight preceded the Jazz Messengers) and by mid-year got shaped a quintet with Utmost Roach. Considered among the premiere hard bop rings, the group lasted until Brown’s loss of life, featuring Harold Property (and afterwards Sonny Rollins) on tenor and documenting several superb models for Emarcy. Simply hours before his loss of life, Brownie made an appearance at a Philadelphia jam program that was miraculously documented, and played a number of the finest music of his brief life. Clifford Dark brown had a fats warm shade, a bop-ish design quite similar to the similarly ill-fated Excess fat Navarro, and an adult improvising strategy; he was as inventive on melodic ballads as he was on fast jams. Amazingly more than enough, a filmed appearance of him playing two tracks in 1955 on the Soupy Sales range show resulted in after being dropped for 40 years, the just known video footage of the fantastic trumpeter. Fortunately, practically all of his recordings are obtainable, including his Prestige schedules (in the OJC series), his function for Blue Notice and Pacific Jazz (on the four-CD arranged), and his many Emarcy classes (reissued on an impressive ten-disc arranged). However the one to grab first is usually Columbia’s THE START and the finish, which includes Brown’s 1st and last recordings.
