Biography
Created in 1992 by longtime friends Thorsten Benning (drums), Robin Rodenberg (bass), Reiner Henseleit (guitar), and Morten Gass (guitar/piano), self-described German all-instrumental “doom ridden jazz music” quartet Bohren & der Golf club of Gore was forged from a distributed love of grindcore, hardcore, death, and doom steel. Originally called just Bohren (German for drilling), the music group extended its moniker in 1993 to reveal among its biggest inspirations, the Dutch instrumental music group GORE. In 1994, following the release of the eponymous 7″ EP for Recommendation Information, the group released its full-length debut, Gore Motel, adopted in 1995 by Midnight Radio, both which made an appearance on Epistrophy Information. Henseleit remaining the band the next 12 months, a move that led to the group’s audio becoming a lot more brooding and minimalist. Composer and saxophone participant Christoph Clöser became a member of in 1997, leading to 2000’s Fender Rhodes-heavy Sunset Objective. After a short hiatus, exactly the same lineup came back for 2002’s Dark Globe, 2005’s Geisterfaust, and 2008’s Dolores. They released Mitleid Woman on Southern Information this year 2010, and adopted it with Beileid on Mike Patton’s Ipecac imprint in the summertime of 2011. After a global tour and a protracted break, the group surfaced with Piano Evenings in early 2014.
