Blake Chen

Mixing trip-hop, goth, and rock and roll affects, Blake Chen’s romance using the dark edges of humanity and music instantly converted heads, you start with his debut launch, 1997’s An Immigrant Music, on Snakeweed Files. Which was followed by the discharge of Haunted. Created in Singapore, Chen’s surrealistic masterpieces instantly received visceral response from music followers. Phoning himself “The Haunted Troubadour,” Chen’s spirited music was catapulted from the launch of Darkness on WHIMusic Information in 2000. The recording combined techno, acoustic rock and roll, and goth inside a swirling musical smorgasbord. Seething with an earnest and personal lyrical design, Chen quickly garnered world-wide attention. During this time period, he also collaborated within the eclectic Detroit task N2 Submission. Putting on a dark cape during his concert shows and on his recording artwork, Chen, a University or college of Michigan graduate, produced a Jedi-like persona filled with secret and intrigue. In press interviews, he openly admitted the impact of rings like Portishead, Beck, and Moby. The Starving Ghost album premiered in early 2002. The album’s metallic overtones were blended with synthesizers and Chen’s vocalist/songwriter origins. The 12-track disc continuing his daring and ominous musical leanings.
