Barrett Deems Big Band

b. 1 March 1914, Springfield, Illinois, USA, d. 15 Sept 1998, Chicago, Illinois, USA. Nicknamed Deemus. Through the entire 30s Deems caused Paul Ash and led his personal small rings. Towards the finish of the 10 years he worked thoroughly with Joe Venuti, a link that lasted before middle-40s. Thereafter, Deems performed in rings led by Crimson Norvo, Charlie Barnet and Muggsy Spanier. Billed because the ‘Globe’s Fastest Drummer’, Deems acquired an eccentric onstage character which was captured on film throughout a solo-feature in Tempo Inn (1951). In 1954 he became a member of Louis Armstrong’s All Superstars, touring many countries and once again showing up on film, this time around in an attribute, High Society, as well as the Ed Morrow tv documentary Satchmo THE FANTASTIC (both 1956). Within the 60s he caused Jack Teagarden as well as the Dukes Of Dixieland before settling in Chicago, where he performed in clubs, frequently backing going to jazzmen. In 1976 he toured with Benny Goodman, and in the 80s caused Wild Costs Davison so when an associate of Keith Smith’s bundle celebrating the music of Louis Armstrong.
