After Shadowy Males on the Shadowy Planet split up, guitarist Brian Connelly spent many years playing guitar in Neko Case’s band, but he apparently wished to make contact with the surf-inspired instrumental sounds from the Shadowy Males, and therefore, Atomic 7 was formed with bass player Clinton Ryder and drummer Mike Andriosso. The band’s debut recording, Dresses by Edith Mind, made an appearance in 2002, accompanied by …En Hillbilly Caliente in 2004.
