The four members of ATL — vocalists Tre, Can, L-Rock, and rapper Risk– came jointly after getting chosen though an Atlanta-area talent search. Where prior R&B/vocal groupings (112, Jagged Advantage) acquired crossed over into hip-hop, by either having a visitor rapper, or showing up on somebody else’s record, ATL had been a self-contained R&B/hip-hop/fusion music group. The quartet enlisted R. Kelly to create their debut one, “Contacting All Young ladies,” that was released in 2003.
