Africaine 808

Mixing ancient global rhythms with electronica that recalls the ’90s stylings from the Orb, Wagon Christ, and Tranquility Bass, Africaine 808 certainly are a duo from Berlin who took their name off their third “member,” an 808 drum machine. Individual associates DJ Nomad and Dirk Leyers kicked off their musical romantic relationship by remixing a few of a common funk and Afro-beat produces into DJ edits that was included with contemporary charm. Adding a Roland 808 drum machine with their set up –which they nicknamed Africaine 808 — allowed these to create music that was their very own, and in 2013 they debuted using the “Cobijas” one over the Vulkan Dance label. The aptly entitled genre mixer “Lagos, NY” released their romantic relationship with Golf Route Recordings in 2014, after that two years afterwards the label released the group’s debut record, Basar.
