Fine Friday

Formed by the end of 2000 by three of the best talents of Edinburgh’s contemporary folk scene, Scottish trio Good Friday presented Kris Drever (b. Orkney, Scotland; acoustic guitar/vocals), Nuala Kennedy (b. Dundalk, Region Louth, Eire; flute/vocals) and Anna-Wendy Stevenson (b. Scotland; fiddle). The trio got met in the town’s well-known folk pub Sandy Bells, and called their music group after their Fri night sessions in the golf club. Their 2002 debut for the Feet Stompin’ label was a wonderful assortment of traditional and unique material, with good interplay between music artists and Drever’s dextrous acoustic guitar playing and soulful vocals glowing through. Another collection, 2005’s Mowing The Machair, constructed for the positive reception afforded the debut and presented some particularly good originals. The trio consequently disbanded to focus on solo projects.
