Underwolves

Though many within the jazzy drum’n’bass movement have small knowledge of the music they’re frequently sampling, the duo Underwolves are long-time jazz listeners (and record dealers). Ned and Stretch out, both from England’s House Counties, came collectively via a trip-hop music group where Ned made an appearance and that Stretch designed. Both were thinking about drum’n’bass (Stretch out was a promoter of varied club evenings around London), and both began recording collectively as Underwolves. After liberating an individual for the Filtration system subsidiary of Dorado, they started recording for Innovative Wax Information — co-run by Ned himself — and released “Crossing” and “The Redeemer” during 1996-97.
