Cavaquinho participant Nelson Alves played in the Grupo de Chiquinha Gonzaga with Tute and Antônio Mariz dos Passos. He was among the founding associates of Oito Batutas in 1919. Alves also performed on Pixinguinha’s early recordings and was an associate from the Guarda Velha group.
