Max Gordon

b. Mechal Saltpeter, 28 June 1892, NEW YORK, NY, USA, d. 2 November 1978, NEW YORK, NY, USA. Involved with theater from his youngsters, Gordon was a maker on Broadway from the first 20s in to the middle-50s. In his early years, Gordon occasionally co-produced with Albert Lewis (b. 15 March 1885, Poland, d. 5 Apr 1978, Beverly Hillsides, California, USA). Nearly all Gordon’s displays, which began using the Anxious Wreck (1923), included Given birth to Last night (1946), and finished with the greatly effective The Solid Platinum Cadillac (1953) weren’t musicals. Gordon was, nevertheless, involved in a number of important musical productions, among that have been some Broadway gems. These included: The Jazz Vocalist (1925, in cooperation with Lewis, which starred George Jessell and went for 303 shows), Three’s A Masses (1930, with music by Arthur Schwartz and lyrics by Howard Dietz), The Music group Wagon (1931, 260 shows, starring Fred Astaire and Adele Astaire, Helen Broderick and Frank Morgan, with music by Schwartz and lyrics by Dietz), The Kitty AS WELL AS THE Fiddle (1931, with music by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Otto Harbach), Soaring Colors (1932, tunes by Schwartz and Dietz), Roberta (1932, 295 shows, with music and lyrics by Kern and Harbach), THE FANTASTIC Waltz (1934, and come back engagement 1935, 298 and 49 shows, with music by Johann Strauss I, and II, and lyrics by Desmond Carter), Jubilee (1935, tunes by Cole Porter), Sing Out THE NEWS HEADLINES (1938, tunes by Harold J. Rome), Very Warm For Might (1939, tunes by Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II, the most known which was ‘All THE ITEMS You Are’), Sunlit River (1941, tunes by Sigmund Romberg and Hammerstein, including ‘Call It A Fantasy’ and ‘Along The Winding Street’), The Firebrand Of Florence (1945, tracks by Kurt Weill and Ira Gershwin, including ‘You’re MUCH TOO Close to Me’, ‘There’ll End up being Live, Like and Laughter’ and ‘Like Is My Foe’), Hollywood Pinafore (1945, a edition of W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan’s HMS Pinafore, with modified lyrics by George S. Kaufman), and Recreation area Avenue (1946, with tracks by Schwartz and Gershwin). Gordon’s sibling, Cliff Gordon (b. Morris Saltpeter, c.1879, d. 21 Apr 1913, Chicago, Illinois, USA), made an appearance in In NY City (1905) and created the musical The Merry Whirl (1910).
