Gangi began simply because the solo task of Brooklyn musician Matt Gangi in 2007, focusing on textural pop music similarly influenced by psyched-out electronica and burly freak folk. Surviving in a dilapidated house, Gangi documented debut 2008 record A in the home on his notebook, occasionally getting insight from friend and neighbor Lyle Nesse. Following the album’s discharge, Gangi and Nesse became a member of forces to focus on re-creating the recording live, Nesse on drum package and a range of looping products and Gangi on acoustic guitar, vocals, and his personal station of consumer electronics. The set relocated to LA to flee the cramped areas and severe winters from the East Coastline, but ironically discovered among their 1st great possibilities for exposure within Spin magazine’s Greatest of 2008 display at CMJ in NY. The presence afforded by this display earned the set a larger group of fans and a residency in the historical L.A. golf club Spaceland. Nesse ultimately had to have a teaching work back again east, and Gangi changed him with likewise minded drummer/knob-turner Eric Chramosta. The set toured and documented often, ultimately honing their sound right into a combination of somewhat more typically rock-based rhythms and liquid electronic textures. Carrying out a group of one-off Internet-debuted paths, the duo came back with second recording Gesture Is within Oct of 2012.
