Although Communiqué debuted under that name using a 2003 EP, the Bay Region indie rockers’ root base stretch nearly ten years ahead of that release. Beneath the name American Metal, vocalist Rory Henderson, guitarist Ryan Massey, bassist John Peck, and drummer Jamie Kissinger shaped in Oakland in 1995 and released three 7″ EPs and a trio of albums, American Metal (1998), Rogue’s March (1999), and Jagged Thoughts (2000). American Metal underwent a stylistic change after their third record, dispensing using their prior hard-edged and punky audio and only a more overtly poppy and stylish indie rock and roll style in the way of the brand new Pornographers, Interpol, and Warm Hot Heat. Amid this switch of path, American Metal transformed their name towards the significantly less punk-sounding Communiqué, shedding a truly terrible name while improving only slightly, in to the simply bland and forgettable. Adding keyboardist Cory Gowan, Communiqué released the EP A Crescent Honeymoon vacation in Feb 2003. The band’s 1st full-length recording, Poison Arrows, premiered in the summertime of 2004. Regrettably, their label because the American Metal days, Lookout!
