Burkina Electric

Burkina Electric powered will be the first electronica music group from Burkina Faso, Western world Africa, though two of their people are from Düsseldorf, Germany, and NEW YORK. Located in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso’s capital, Burkina Electric powered play music that combines the customs and rhythms of Burkina Faso with modern electronic dance lifestyle. This different and talented group includes four music artists and two dancers melding disparate musical styles and noises from throughout the world. Burkina Electric’s uncommon rhythms are the seldom heard — also in Africa — Sahel, through the Mossi individuals of Ouaraba and Ouenega, as well as the music group creates new types by incorporating noises of traditional musical instruments and found noises documented in Burkina Faso. Shows often consist of live-manipulated video aswell. The music group was created when renowned vocalist Maï Lingani (who sings in Moré, Dioula, Bissa, and French), guitarist Wende K. Blass, electronicist/VJ Pyrolator (a founding person in D.A.F. and Der Strategy), and New York-based drummer/electronicist/composer Lukas Ligeti had been users of Beta Foly, an organization that surfaced from a workshop led by Ligeti and Pyrolator. The quartet produced Burkina Electric powered for any one-time tour of Austria; for the tour they extended to a sextet offering dancers Wendy and Zoko Zoko, who also lead support vocals. The cooperation was so effective that they made the decision continue collectively. In 2007 Burkina Electric powered released the dual EP Rêem Tekré, offering four from the group’s tunes and remixes by DJ Spooky, Paul de Jong, Rupert Huber, Raz Mesinai, and Stefan Schneider. Furthermore, the monitor “Mdolé” is presented around the compilation Beyond the Horizon, put together by BBC Radio DJ Charlie Gillett, released in 2008. They possess toured internationally and performed many important locations and celebrations. Their debut recording, Paspanga, premiered in early 2010.
