Zimmer’s Hole

Side tasks emerging from a mother or father band’s downtime — between trips, saving albums, general period off, whatever the reason why — are nothing at all new, and the thought of a metallic band’s sidemen dealing with a far more humorous and/or satirical tack is most likely even less amazing. An extremely satirical side task of Strapping Youthful Lad/Fear Manufacturing plant/Tenet users Byron Stroud and Jed Simon, Zimmer’s Opening may not have already been created in the lag time taken between main band actions, but the task sure did get yourself a kick-start once in a while when the Devin Townsend-led metallic mainstay Strapping Youthful Lad required a day time or two off. Originally conceived in 1991 in Vancouver, English Columbia, Zimmer’s Opening released their 1st recording, Bound by Open fire, in 1997. The music group was curved out at this time by vocalist (and longtime Townsend collaborator) Chris Valagao and Strapping Youthful Lad/Dethklok drummer Steve Wheeler. Nonetheless it was a case of “responsibility phone calls” for Stroud and Simon, who were not able to spotlight Zimmer’s Hole because of the touring routine of Strapping Small Lad. A rest in 2001 allowed for plenty of time to record a follow-up, Legion of Flames, a task that even were able to rope within their regular band’s innovator Townsend as maker, who released the recording by himself label (Hevy Devy) aswell. A satirical sendup of metallic greats, Legion of Flames were able to build-up the band’s cachet just a little even more, and in 2003 Hundred years Press re-released Zimmer’s Hole’s debut, Bound by Open fire. For 2008’s When You Had been Shouting in the Devil…We Were in Little league with Satan, fresh drummer Gene Hoglan replaced Steve Wheeler.
