Zeal & Ardor

The black metal, blues, and BLACK fusion of Zeal & Ardor’s music may be the brainchild of musician Manuel Gagneux. He shifted from his indigenous Switzerland to NY, and used the moniker Zeal & Ardor, having previously released music beneath the name Birdmask. The chamber pop of his Birdmask recordings can be a long way off through the darker, heavier music he designed for his Zeal & Ardor debut Devil IS OKAY. He released the record in 2016, and Gagneux statements the task was kickstarted with a thread on the music board on the site 4Chan, which he was publishing anonymously on. On hearing the record, some music journalists had been convinced how the vocal chants had been samples of older spirituals, but Gagneux insisted that the vocals had been his own function.
