Zara McFarlane

Delivered to Jamaican parents in Dagenham, Britain, jazz vocalist Zara McFarlane was raised hearing reggae and R&B. At age 14, she produced her initial appearance on tv when she performed a Lauryn Hill tune on this program Stars to them. She went to the BRIT College, the School of Western world London’s Technology Music College, as well as the Guildhall College of Music & Dilemma, where she created her like for jazz. Her initial recordings, however, had been done with home action Bopstar (“Chiaroscuro,” “Captured”). This year 2010, she released a six-track EP but didn’t gain a substantial amount of interest until BBC DJ Gilles Peterson agreed upon her to Brownswood and released the record Until Tomorrow in Oct 2011. The processed contemporary jazz recording gained her a MOBO (Music of Dark Source) nomination. Her follow-up, the greater varied IN THE EVENT THAT YOU Knew Her, premiered in January 2014. McFarlane in addition has performed with Denys Baptiste, Nicola Conte, Jazz Jamaica, Soweto Kinch, and Orphy Robinson.
