Yas-Kaz

A university-trained percussionist, Japan musician Yasukazu Sato gained attention for his international travels as composer for the innovative dance group Sankaijuku. His uncommon combination of historic Oriental forms, roomy musical atmospheres, and ceremonial percussion supplied perfect accompaniment towards the ritualistic actions and gradually unfolding acrobatic feats of the contemporary Japanese dance firm. He in addition has scored many award-winning Japanese movies, performed with American jazz saxophonist Wayne Shorter and Japanese synthesist Himekami, and documented several imaginative single albums.
