Woolfy vs. Projections certainly are a California-based duo whose audio draws similarly from dubby space disco, lite funk, and yacht rock and roll, conjuring up pictures of hand tree-lined beaches aswell as the cosmos. The duo’s midtempo neo-disco songs typically feature tasteful acoustic guitar licks, hazy vocals, and calm, atmospheric synthesizers, but having a somewhat surrealist sci-fi bent. While U.K.-given birth to Simon Wayne (Woolfy) and Dan Hastie have been building music together as Projections because the past due ’90s, releasing many singles aswell as 2002 full-length Between Here and today on Assistance Recordings, it wasn’t until they began exploring the saga of Captain Starlight, the titular hero of Zazu’s 1979 cult disco traditional from the same name, how the duo set up themselves on the forefront from the Balearic revival. Growing their moniker to Woolfy vs. Projections, the set released 12″ one “The Come back of Starlight” on Long lasting Holiday in 2007, accompanied by the full-length The Astral Projections of Starlight in 2008. Woolfy released single singles on Rong Music, DFA, and Mindless Boogie, and a single album, 2009’s IN THE EVENT THAT YOU Know What’s Best for Ya!!, as the duo participated in funk group Orgone. In 2012, Woolfy vs. Projections shipped their second full-length space odyssey, The Come back of Like, which highlighted a monitor co-produced by Tensnake. After some more single singles by Woolfy on brands such as Open public Release and Potential Basic, Woolfy vs. Projections released their third record, Channels, in 2015.
