Wilson Chavis, Jr.

A protege of zydeco ruler Clifton Chenier, Wilfred Chevis honed an urbanized design heavily informed by his mentor’s touch. Delivered in Church Stage, Louisiana in 1945, Chevis was raised steeped in the customs of Cajun “la-la” music, and discovered to try out accordion from his dad. He learned the device after learning to be a pupil of Chenier, who also marketed him the accordion he performed throughout his professional profession. Chevis relocated to Houston in 1969, and there he and his Tx Zydeco Music group became a fixture on the region club and celebration circuit; in 1985, he finally produced his first LP, Feet Stompin’ Zydeco. Starting during the past due 1980s, Chevis also started hosting a zydeco present on Houston place KPFT-FM; another album, Let’s Head to P.T.’s, implemented in 1991.
