William Grant Still

“With humble because of God, the foundation of Motivation.” Such may be the inscription found on the ratings of the functions of William Give Still, sometimes known as “The Dean of African-American Composers” and something of America’s most flexible music artists. Still was but 90 days previous when his dad, the city bandmaster, died. Quickly thereafter, his family members moved to Small Rock and roll, AK. Still provides written movingly from the impact his mom and grandmother acquired in developing his personality and instilling in him a like for the arts. Guggenheim and Rosenwald Fellowships allowed him to create large-scale works just like the ballet Lenox Avenue (1937) as well as the operas Blue Metal (1935) and Stressed Isle (1938).
