Whirligig

Not to end up being confused using the U.K. band of the same name (though that might be easy, because they’re both located in Celtic music), the brand new York City-based Whirligig fuses Celtic noises with other conventional folk and globe musics (klezmer, middle ages, etc.), aswell as details of jazz, rock and roll, and modern dance music. The group created in 1994 around co-leaders Greg Anderson (vocals, bass, keyboards, cittern, bouzouki) and Lisa Gutkin (fiddle, vocals), with additional users including Lisa Moscatiello (lead vocals, acoustic guitar, mandolin, whistles), Paul Kovit (acoustic guitar, mandolin), Klezmatics member Matt Darriau (flute, clarinet, saxophones, kaval, gaida, whistles), North Ireland indigenous Cillian Vallely (uilleann pipes, whistles), and Frenchman Yves Duboin (saxophones, flute, percussion). The group released its debut Compact disc, Tires, in 1996, and finally started playing folk celebrations throughout THE UNITED STATES, including major types like Newport and Philadelphia. Positive press adopted, and Whirligig released its second recording, Spin, in 2000, once again with a big cast of a lot more supporting musicians.
