Western Keys

The Austin, TX, music group Western Secrets, led by Post-Parlo records head Ben Dickey (formerly of Capsize and New Cuba), presents a tiny conundrum for all those quick to lump rings in to the alt-country sphere. The group’s music could be lathered, sometimes, in big weeps of pedal metal, but general the music also inhabits the spheres of emo, indie rock and roll and sloppy lo-fi. The loose general aesthetic (distributed by groups such as for example Bright Eye and Silver Mobility scooter) continues to be termed relatively accurately “garage area Americana.” Traditional western Secrets, which also includes Daniel McIntosh, Leslie Sisson, and John Troutman, released their debut EP, Damage, in past due 2002 for the Self-Starter Foundation.
