Western Addiction

Biography

Using a song called “Church of Black Flag” on the Fat Wreck debut, Cognicide, Western Addiction’s debt towards the pioneering West Coast hardcore band was clear. The music was dense and choppy, with big bass chords helping guitars that railed against vocalist Jason Hall’s yawping mixture of the cynical and confrontational. Cognicide also highlighted throwback cover artwork. Nonetheless it was all in the program for Western Obsession, who seemed quite determined to create that old-school sound back again to the mushy rates of post-whatever punk hybridism within the mid-2000s. Furthermore to Hall, the music group met through work at Fats Wreck Chords and included Foe You guitarist Ken Yamazaki, drummer Chad Williams, and bassist Poultry (also of Foe You). The San Francisco-based quartet released 2003’s Be sure you Dismember EP along with a No Idea divide discharge with New Mexican Devastation Squad before Cognicide strike in November 2005.
