Welcome Mat

Jangly guitar pop gave way to a harder edged sound for Australian band the Welcome Mat, who released their first single, “Last of the fantastic Letdowns,” in 1990. The six-track EP Fairydust implemented in 1991 and resulted in a cope with Regular Information. The move demonstrated fortuitous and their 1992 EP, Extra, topped the indie graphs, resulting in support gigs using the Hoodoo Experts, Died Very, and American music group Buffalo Tom. Noted companies Paul Kolderie and Sean Slade (Lemonheads, Buffalo Tom, Dinosaur Jr.) took the reins for the rings full-length debut, Gram, released in 1993. Despite getting critically well-received, Gram’s effect on the graphs was negligible and frontman Wayne Connolly relocated into creation. With credits for albums by Custard, Underground Enthusiasts, You Am I, as well as the Fauves, Connolly after that formed the strap Knievel, who released We Dread Switch in 1995 before dealing with the strap Fragile on the 1996 recording Airbrushed Excellence. The Welcome Mat re-formed and released Lap of Honour the same yr.
