Wayne Kramer

A member from the legendary MC5, guitarist and proto-punk icon Wayne Kramer came back to prominence through the 1990s being a single performer. Born Apr 30, 1948 in Detroit, he co-founded the MC5 in 1965, teaming with the fantastic Fred “Sonic” Smith to generate the band’s incendiary twin-guitar strike. Their first record, 1969’s Kick Out the Jams, continues to be perhaps one of the most important records from the period, its fresh, visceral audio laying the groundwork for the rise of punk ten years later. Nevertheless, after simply two even more LPs — the 1970 masterpiece Back the U.S.A. and another year’s ABOUT TIME — the group dissolved; Kramer spent the greater area of the years that instantly followed fighting a drug issue, even spending 2 yrs in jail for working cocaine.
