Wayne Fontana

b. Glyn Ellis, 28 Oct 1945, Manchester, Britain. After changing his name in honour of Elvis Presley’s drummer D.J. Fontana, Wayne was agreed upon to the properly named Fontana Information by A&R mind Jack port Baverstock. Wayne’s support group, the Mindbenders in the horror film of the same name, had been as achieved as their head and supplied a gritty accompaniment. Their initial minor strike was using the unremarkable Hello Josephine’ in 1963. Focusing on mild R&B addresses, the group finally broke through making use of their 5th release, the Main Lance cover ‘Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um’, which reached # 5 5 in the united kingdom. The 1965 follow-up, ‘The Video game Of Like’, hit #2 2 and spearheaded a Kennedy Road Companies Manchester invasion of the united states which raised the group to #1 1. Thereafter, the group battled, with ‘Simply A BIT Too Past due’ as well as the below par ‘She Requirements Love’ getting their only additional hits. In Oct 1965, Wayne made a decision to pursue a single career, first saving the Bert Berns and Jerry Ragovoy ballad ‘It Was SIMPLER TO Harm Her’ before selecting achievement with Jackie Edwards’ catchy ‘Arrive On House’. Erratic improvement followed, with just the Graham Gouldman structure ‘Pamela Pamela’ breaking a operate of misses. After quitting music through the early 70s, Fontana became a member of the revivalist circuit, although his improvement was often dogged by personal complications.
