Waymon Reed

A journeyman jazz trumpeter, Reed was a trusted bop-oriented soloist. After going to the Eastman College of Music and getting experience using R&B groups along with Ira Sullivan in Miami, Reed was an associate of Wayne Brown’s group during 1965-1969 and was with Count number Basie (1969-1973). Brief stints using the Frank Foster and Thad Jones-Mel Lewis big rings preceded another tour of responsibility with Basie (1977-1978). Reed was wedded for a while to Sarah Vaughan, and he caused her during a lot of 1978-1980 before their relationship split up and he was stricken with malignancy.
