Among the finest bassists from the golf swing era, Walter Web page rarely soloed but his four-to-the-bar jogging behind soloists place the typical for bassists within the 1930s prior to the rise of Jimmy Blanton. A longtime citizen of Kansas Town, Web page was with Bennie Moten in the first days (1918-1923) and during 1925-1931 led the Blue Devils, Moten’s primary competition. Regrettably Page’s group just produced two recordings and by 1931 Moten experienced achieved his objective of stealing a lot of the band’s best players, including Web page himself. After Moten’s loss of life in 1935, Walter Web page achieved fame within Count number Basie’s unbeatable tempo section (combined with the pianist/innovator, tempo guitarist Freddie Green and drummer Jo Jones) during 1935-1942 and 1946-1949. He spent his staying years using Eddie Condon’s Dixieland rings and along with his close friends from the golf swing world, including Warm Lips Web page, Jimmy Rushing, and different Basie alumni. Web page collapsed on the path to filming The Audio of Jazz and passed away soon after at age 57.
