Walter J. Ridley

b. Walter J. Ridley, 28 Feb 1913, London, Britain. Ridley began piano lessons when he was six yrs . old and was quickly demonstrating the pianos his father bought from his furniture shop. At nine, Ridley was making profits performing and playing piano at numerous functions with 13 received a scholarship towards the North Polytechnic in London to understand about the produce of pianos. In 1948, Ridley persuaded the BBC to broadcast a radio series live from a theater: he developed the series which starred Donald Peers at London’s Kilburn Empire. He implemented this with the idea and creation of the radio series having a ventriloquist. This is Educating Archie with Peter Brough and Archie Andrews, which also produced household brands of Utmost Bygraves, Tony Hancock and Hattie Jacques. That same season Ridley became a member of EMI Information with a short to make a ‘well-known’ catalogue for HMV Information. He do this with performers including Joe Reduction, George Melachrino, Alma Cogan, Ronnie Hilton, Malcolm Vaughan, Donald Peers (for whom he discovered ‘Powder THAT PERSON With Sunlight’), the humor duo Morecambe And Smart (for whom he discovered ‘Bring Me Sunlight’), Andy Stewart, Pleasure Strings and, relatively later on, Benny Hill and Iris Williams. Ridley created lots l strike for Johnny Kidd AS WELL AS THE Pirates, ‘Shakin’ All Over’, and in the Mersey Defeat era, he created the Swinging Blue Denim jeans, who experienced UK Best 5 strikes with ‘Hippy Hippy Tremble’ and ‘You’re No Great’. Another #1 1 was with 1975’s cover edition of ‘Whispering Lawn’ by stars Windsor Davies and Don Estelle, and he created some bestselling albums in line with the BBC Tv series, The MONOCHROME Minstrels. Ridley’s initial short when he became a member of EMI was also to find out which information from America’s RCA – Victor Information label were befitting UK launch. He was performing that whenever he introduced an archive by a youthful and unknown vocalist known as Elvis Presley with ‘Heartbreak Resort’. It produced friction at EMI at that time. ‘We got the most severe reviews we’d ever endured for an archive, ’ he clarifies, ‘and the powers-that-be wished to sack me for liberating it.’
