Walt Dickerson

Walt Dickerson produced a direct effect when he initial emerged in the first ’60s — he won the Straight down Defeat Critic’s Poll seeing that New Superstar in 1962 — but seeing that the years passed he became significantly less visible. Dickerson graduated from Morgan Condition University in 1953. After portion in the Military from 1953-1955, he resolved in California, where he led a music group that included Andrew Cyrille and Andrew Hill. In his early-’60s heyday, Dickerson performed the night clubs on the brand new York picture. He caused Sun Ra, documenting Impressions of the Patch of Blue in 1965. Quickly thereafter, Dickerson retired from executing for nearly ten years and coming back in 1975. In the years 1977-1978, he produced the majority of his recordings for the Steeplechase label, including duos with Sunlight Ra, guitarist Pierre Dørge, and bassist Richard Davis. Also in 1978, Dickerson documented within a quartet with pianist Albert Dailey. Dickerson was mostly of the vibists to demonstrate a knowledge of free of charge jazz methods, though he was manifestly conversant in the vocabulary of post-bop. While not heard being a head on disk after 1982, Dickerson eventually performed around his indigenous Philadelphia; he passed away in Willow Grove, PA, of cardiac arrest in-may 2008.
