Virginia Squires

This modern US bluegrass group comprised Rickie Simpkins (fiddle, mandolin, vocals), Ronnie Simpkins (bass, vocals), Sammy Shelor (guitar, banjo, vocals) and Tag Newton (guitar, vocals). The Simpkins Brothers result from a musical family members from the hillsides simply south-west of Roanoke, Virginia. They performed together in a family group group but ultimately produced Upland Express, a bluegrass music group that acquired an album discharge on Leather Information within the 70s. They separated in the first 80s, when Rickie caused the McPeak Brothers and Ronnie joined up with the Bluegrass Cardinals. In 1982 they reunited in Richmond, within a music group called the Levels Of Lawn, but early in 1983, with Tag Newton (previously an associate of Knoxville Lawn) and Sammy Shelor (one-time person in the Country Guys), they truly became the Virginia Squires. Playing a number of bluegrass, rock and roll, old-time and nation, they became an extremely popular music group in their indigenous state and documented for the Rebel label.
