b. 6 Sept 1962, Glasgow, Scotland. Violet Leighton started her singing profession performing in night clubs and pubs in her city and in other areas of the united states. Her repertoire at that time was primarily R&B tunes. After shifting to London she worked well as a program vocalist, but also produced concert and golf club looks and sang at jazz and blues celebrations. She was persuaded by Glasgow-based disk jockey and impresario Jim Waugh to redirect her repertoire, and in the middle-90s began performing jazz. Performing in a variety of parts of the united kingdom she has distributed expenses with jazz notables, including Martin Taylor, and produced a well-received debut recording. Dealing with guitarist and composer Nigel Clark, she’s made an appearance on BBC radio and in addition on tv. In the past due 90s she was finding her profession around London and in addition wanting to expand her vocal limitations beyond the confining envelope of jazz. Leighton’s performing voice is usually warm and adult and she swings with subtlety. Her treatment of ballads is particularly satisfying, and she possesses superb interpretative skills.
