A pre-stardom Barry Light began using singer Viola Wills being a program vocalist on edges that he produced for Bob Keane’s Bronco/Mustang brands. In the middle-’60s, Keane — known for strikes by Ritchie Valens, the Bobby Fuller Four, and Johnny Crawford of ABC-TV’s strike traditional western The Rifleman — wished to expand into spirit music. In 1965, A&R movie director White authorized Wills to Bronco like a single artist. She documented several edges for the label; all didn’t graph. In 1969, she documented an individual for the A Bem Spirit label that also didn’t strike. In 1974, she changed back-up vocalist Claudia Linnear on Joe Cocker’s Western tour.
