The résumé of Los Angeles-based multimedia artist Lionel Williams might seem heady, quoting Egyptian BioGeometry and Russellian science as key influences, however when he performs beneath the name Vinyl Williams, his music attracts from more typical reference points like shoegaze and psychedelic pop. As the grandson of renowned film composer John Williams, his design differs than one might anticipate. Instead of getting dense and orchestral, his improvised bedroom recordings are comparable to the dreamy lo-fi of serves of Deerhunter and Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti. Williams began documenting his debut in the springtime of 2010, playing every one of the equipment himself and building washy textures through multi-tracking.
