Viikate

Stemming from Finland’s doom steel scene, brothers Kaarle and Simeoni Viikate shaped a strap ostensibly to fill up a void in the scene following a second breakup from the strap Lijiykomppania. Though playing and sometimes documenting from 1996 onward, the music group really gained grip using the addition in 2001 of Arvo and Ervo Viikate on acoustic guitar and bass, respectively. Strikes attended cyclically with Ei ole ketaan kelle soittaa in 2002, Leimu in 2003 and Pohjoista viljaa in 2005, although band can be prodigious in result with approximately one original recording per year, aswell as collections composed of their functions on Longplay and Spinefarm Information, and several EPs and singles every year. Though the music group comes from the ultra-heavy Finnish metallic picture, the lyrical content material draws seriously from 1950’s Finnish artwork films and even more folksy, domestic performers in the vein of Reino Helismaa — a little bit of an unusual juxtaposition set alongside the remaining scene.
