Vi Redd

Vi Redd, although greatly under-recorded throughout her profession, was a separate bop-based altoist and a thrilling singer. The little girl of drummer Alton Redd, Vi was encircled by music while developing up. She performed locally, working beyond music for the plank of education during 1957-1960 before time for jazz. Redd performed in NEVADA in 1962, was with Earl Hines in 1964, and led an organization in SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA in the middle-’60s with her hubby, drummer Richie Goldberg. Among her various other associations were Potential Roach, Dizzy Gillespie (1968), and Count number Basie. In 1969 Vi Redd resolved in LA where she gigged locally on an intermittent basis while getting active as an educator. She led albums for United Performers (1962) and Atco (1962-1963), and afterwards appeared over the Gene Ammons/Dexter Gordon duo record The Run after! (1970) and Marian McPartland’s Now’s enough time (1977).
