Vi Burnside

b. 19 Apr 1915, USA. A superb tenor saxophonist, Burnside performed within an all-female music group led by Costs Baldwin before signing up for the International Sweethearts Of Tempo when Jesse Rock reorganized the music group in the first 40s. Using the Sweethearts she toured European countries, playing to American servicemen and by the end from the 40s she remained on when the Sweethearts disbanded to reform beneath the command of Anna Mae Winburn. Through the past due 40s and early 50s Burnside also led her very own quintet which highlighted trumpet players Norma Carson and Flo Dreyer. A generating player using a breathy forceful build, Burnside was one of the better soloists the Sweethearts acquired, and there is no shortage of these. Had she arrive a generation roughly later, there appears little question that she’d have already been acclaimed as the really world-class saxophonist she was.
