Verbena

Putting on their animosity on the sleeve, Birmingham, Alabama-based Verbena carry greater than a moderate resemblance to Nirvana making use of their gritty, aggressive rock and roll and singer/guitarist Scott Bondy’s soul-bearing vocals. Bondy started using Les Nuby (drums) and Duquette Johnston (bassist) once the three had been in senior high school in the first ’90s. Ann Marie Griffin (vocalist/guitarist) became a member of the trio, known as Shallow, and distributed songwriting responsibilities with Bondy. Nuby still left the group and was changed by first Remy No drummer Louis Schefano. The music group renamed itself Verbena and released the EP, Pilot Recreation area, on Merge. Nuby rejoined the music group a year afterwards. Verbena’s debut full-length, Souls on the market, attracted interest from Capitol and Foo Fighter Dave Grohl, who decided to generate the band’s major-label debut, In to the Green. In 1999, Johnston still left the band, producing Verbena a trio once more. It might be another four years until Verbena would rise once again. In 2003, Nuby and Bondy, alongside bassist Nick Daviston, resumed their timetable with Capitol because of their third record, La Musica Negra, which continuing the band’s move toward straight-ahead rock and roll.
