Vanessa Rubin

An attractive singer would you not improvise very much, Vanessa Rubin recorded many okay albums for Novus. She analyzed traditional music but turned to jazz in early stages. Rubin sang with and handled the Blackshaw Brothers (an body organ quartet from Cleveland). After dealing with many organizations locally (and documenting using the Cleveland Jazz All-Stars), in 1982 Rubin relocated to NY. She caused Pharoah Sanders, Frank Foster’s Noisy Minority, as well as the big rings of Mercer Ellington and Lionel Hampton, and analyzed with Barry Harris furthermore to teaching within the N.Con.C. public college program. In 1992 she authorized with Novus and her produces for the label are very enjoyable, including an excellent tribute to Carmen McRae.
