Ursula Rucker is not a funky diva — she’s her own diva. Having collaborated with a few of music’s most advanced — the Silent Poets, Ruler Britt, Josh Wink, the Origins — Rucker offers honed her seductive spoken wordplay inside Philly spirit, hip-hop, and fresh jazz. She combines interpersonal consciousness with womanhood, dark culture, and like for something musically alluring. A graduate of Temple’s journalism college, Rucker produced her poetic debut in 1994 at Philly’s famous Zanzibar Blue. Following that, she demonstrated her wise and sultry bravado without frills. The past due ’90s illustrated her abrasive poetic character inside slashes like Josh Wink’s “6th Feeling” and 4hero’s “Loveless.” Supa Sista, Rucker’s debut recording showcasing a street-fighting soul, was released in Sept 2001 on !K7. Metallic or Lead (2003) and Ma’at Mama (2006) adopted.
