Urban Tribe

Detroit’s Sherard Ingram was mostly of the Americans (alongside DJ Darkness and Money Tag) to record for Britain’s observed trip-hop label Mo’ Polish. Initially a car for earthy downtempo productions, Urban Tribe debuted on Carl Craig’s Retroactive and Globe E brands by adding to the Equinox: Section One (1990) and Components of and Tests with Audio (1992) compilations. After putting your signature on to Mo’ Polish, he released the EP Eastward in later 1996. Ingram’s debut record, 1998’s The Collapse of Contemporary Culture, extended the lineup to add designers Craig and Anthony “Tremble” Shakir, plus Kenny Dixon, Jr. (aka Moodymann). Four years afterwards, Ingram resumed creation work, initial by documenting as Mystic Tribe for the Netherlands’ Clone label and by aligning with Rephlex. This association birthed two full-lengths: 2006’s Certified Clinical Studies and 2007’s Appropriate UNWANTED EFFECTS, both which were nearer to Drexciya’s hard-edged, electro-inspired early produces than early Urban Tribe. It’s no simple coincidence that Ingram in addition has controlled as “Drexciyan DJ Stingray.”
