Uncle Jamm’s Army

LA was an integral capital over the small corner of the first hip-hop map referred to as electro, and Uncle Jamm’s Military were among the primary known reasons for that. A protracted crew of companies, DJs, and vocalists including Ice-T, Egyptian Fan, the Unknown DJ, and Chris “The Glove” Taylor, Uncle Jamm’s Military released a string of well-known, influential electro slashes during 1984-1986, including “What’s Your Indication,” “Dial-a-Freak,” and “Yes, Yes, Yes,” all for the Freak Defeat label. Notable because of their all-around musicality; generating, effective rhythms; and uncompromising attitude, Uncle Jamm’s Military remain perhaps one of the most essential pieces within the old-school electro puzzle and also have influenced ratings of new-school electro makers, from Autechre to I-F.
